Rowdy demo Thursday night

From our enemies:

A peaceful protest through downtown Montreal on Thursday night turned ugly interesting after some students threw rocks and other objects at police officers. One officer suffered minor wounds.

About 150 students, some wearing bandanas over their faces and equipped with ski goggles, marched through the streets of downtown Montreal for a second night in a row. They disrupted traffic and chanted, as bemused or fed up bystanders and nervous store security guards looked on, but didn’t cause any damage.

After a stop in front of Sir Winston Churchill’s Pub on Crescent St., where speakers pledged “the battle has just begun,” the protesters walked east on Ste. Catherine St., with a contingent of police vehicles and police on horseback following closely behind.

At 9 p.m., police reported students were throwing rocks at them, and that a police car had been slightly vandalized at the corner of University and de la Gauchetière St. Some graffiti was sprayed on buildings as well. Police ordered the protesters to disperse, which they did, and the protest was declared over.

No arrests were made.
